This is the trailer to a short documentary on the charcoal sector in Africa portraying the specific example of the city of Dar-es-Salaam in Tanzania.
We featured the longer version of this film in a post back in August.
The film was published jointly by the World Bank and the Government of Tanzania in August 2009. The film puts forward and discusses a range of policy measures along the entire charcoal value chain as possible options for reforms of the sector. The video brings out the voices of stakeholders, putting a human face on the policy debate.
This full-length film is intended to create the basis for an informed discussion about the future role of charcoal in Tanzania — and many other Sub-Saharan African countries — where wood-based energy remains the principle source of energy for the majority of the population.
