Imarisha-Kenya
Mission and Operation
Imarisha-Kenya is a non-profit organization located in Nyeri, Kenya, that aims to improve the livelihoods of marginalized groups by supporting sustainable development programs and engaging in the clean cooking value chain for environment protection, job creation and income generation. Specifically, Imarisha-Kenya envisions empowering Kenyan communities by driving sustainable development, with a mission to facilitate the adoption of innovative practices and approaches among marginalized communities for sustainable development. Majorly, the organization targets the marginalized in the society and works towards establishing innovative and sustainable enterprises for their empowerment.
Imarisha-Kenya produces carbonized briquettes from agricultural wastes such as macadamia nuts. Before Covid-19, Imarisha-Kenya was producing 20 tons per month, currently they produce less then 10. To make their briquettes, the use an extruder and a solar dryer which has the capacity to make 60 bags of 50kg a week. Their biggest customers are chicken brooders, then street vendors, restaurants, households, and a few schools.
In HFI Kenya, Imarisha-Kenya hopes to receive requisite capacity-business skills, mentor ship, linkage to partners and funding sources and business exposure that will enable us to scale.
