Nyalore Impact Ltd.
Mission and Operation
Nyalore Impact Ltd. is located in Homa Bay County, Kenya, where the company manufactures multi-fuel cookstoves under the Jiko Digi brand, and charcoal briquettes, which are distributed to local households and institutions. In addition, the company distributes Beyond Lighting Solar products. Nyalore Impact is on a mission to enhance public health, promote sustainability and alleviate gender inequality by providing clean energy options and clean energy jobs to women within their community.
The briquettes produced by Nyalore Impact are made from locally sourced raw materials such as charcoal dust and agricultural residue. The company collects maize cobs, groundnut waste, cassava waste, millet, maize stalks and tree branches, carbonizes the material, and turns it into charcoal briquettes. Nyalore supports the local community, using locally made extruder to support its weekly briquette production. Cookstoves are assembled using the clay liners purchased from a local women’s group, and with the metal and cladding provided by local artisans.
To date, Nyalore Impact has worked with 300 women (30 women groups with 15 members each), 90% of which are vulnerable women or teenage mothers aged between 14 and 25 years old who are out of school.
With support from the HFI Kenya program, Nyalore Impact hopes to improve the branding of its products and develop a strategy for expanding its customer base. In addition, they will work to continue to improve the quality and availability their briquettes and clean cookstoves.
