Usafi Green Energy is a clean energy company located in Thika, in Kiambu County, Kenya. Usafi Green Energy mainly distributes charcoal briquettes and and clean cookstoves. The company was founded by Brian Onyango and Vicktor Wakumba, who both have significant experience in the briquette and clean cookstove sectors.  

The company distributes both carbonized and uncarbonized briquettes, working with three different manufacturers of briquettes.  They sell approximately 4-6 tons of carbonized briquettes per month and these are distributed primarily to households and institutions. The primary feedstock used for the carbonized briquettes is waste from macadamia nuts; however, they also sell other types of briquettes that are made with charcoal dust and human waste.  The company sources the raw material from macadamia nuts companies, take the waste streams to manufacturers for production, then picks up for sale to the end clients.

Usafi Green Energy also distributes Burn Jikokoa cookstoves for households and locally made institutional cookstoves for schools, hotels and restaurants. The Burn stoves are used primarily with carbonized briquettes and the institutional stoves use uncarbonized briquettes.

In addition to selling briquette and cookstove products, the company provides training on briquette making, sells briquette making machinery and also sells some solar products.

Usafi Green Energy brings in clients by keeping prices affordable and showing them the savings they can make by using the long burning briquettes and efficient cookstoves.
