We’re in Johannesburg this week to present a vision of hope to Africa’s Energy Minister, especially those in sub-Saharan Africa with populations that depend heavily on unsustainable charcoal production and consumption. Our message is, “yes, we can get through this together.” It’s not unlike a 12-step program that demands we recognize the situation full-on and begin taking the necessary action. Hint: policy will be key.
We’re especially interested in speaking with Uganda’s Energy Minister, the Hon. Muloni Irene. Our interest is not just because we have a project in progress in her country, but because of this most recent article in allAfrica that highlights the looming charcoal crisis in the country.
In brief, the article with a scary, screaming headline that reads: “Energy Crisis Looming As Charcoal Prices Soar” is worth reading not just for its titillating headline, but because what’s happening in Uganda is on track to happen elsewhere in sub-Saharan Africa.
We’ll be reporting on the outcome of this week’s meeting with the minster and all things related to solid biomass fuels in Africa, so stay tuned!
Its true this situation is happening in the great lake region.
I wish commisonors of the said meeting is attended technical persons for reason of productivity.
And keep us informed and procedings of this meeting.
