Rogerio Carneiro de Miranda, Director
Rogério Carneiro de Miranda, is a forest engineer with masters in forest management, by Viçosa Federal University (UFV) in Brazil.
Rogério has dedicated nearly 30 years of his professional life to woodenergy, from mastering the development, production and commercialization of ecostoves (improved wood stoves) in Latin America, to promoting forest replacement associations among small fuelwood consuming enterprises in Central America, and supporting the modernization of charcoal production in Nicaragua and Brazil.
Over the years he has worked as NGO leader with PROLEÑA in Central America and Brazil, as biomass energy specialist for The World Bank and Winrock International in Washington DC, as international consultant on wood energy for The World Bank and the Inter American Development Bank, and lately as entrepreneur with his ecostove company in Brazil, Ecofogao.com. Rogério has also worked in some African countries such as Ethiopia and Madagascar.
He has a real interest in rural development, especially on ecostoves for households and small businesses, reforestation efforts by fuelwood consumers, and energy efficiency of small wood consuming industries such as bricks, lime and charcoal. For that he created the NGO Proleña which was his first initiative to tackle the wood energy sector problems.
Rogério has specially received awards and recognitions due the development of the ecostove, such as the Ashen Award in 2003 in the UK, the Home Planet in 2004 and the Hugo Werneck awards in 2010, both in Brazil, and also a recognition by USAID in 2006.
Rogério brings to the board his knowledge and passion for rural energy development, and his experience with NGOs, international development agencies and entrepreneurs. Furthermore, Rogério is now based in Brazil, a country which is the largest world charcoal producer and home of innovative charcoal technologies.
